20 November 2013

Bonjour all,

I have come to the conclusion that while I’m in school, I can’t/shouldn’t be writing two blog posts per week and attempt NaNoWriMo.

As it stands I would need to write 3,599 words per day to finish NaNoWriMo on time. It’s not going to happen. I’ve had several episodes of illness, some grading and a horrific research project. Really the research project is not that bad, but there is literally NO published material on what I’m trying to write on and there are some disconnects between my professor’s obsession with methodology and my vision.

These and several other factors have kept me from writing much besides academic papers and blog posts(which, if you look at the calendar, have never been posted.

Therefore, I’m declaring a hiatus on my blog until the Christmas holidays. Sure, I’m going to be posting things here and there, but I’m not guaranteeing anything regular. This will give me the wiggle room I need to do my school work and work on my writing as needed as well.

That’s all for now. I do have some positive updates, but most of those will have to wait.

Signing off,

Branson

P.S. Our little guy is now crawling! Granted, his technique has room for improvement, but he’s finally ambulatory! Okay, I’m for realsies gone now.

Alrighty people, during NaNoWriMo I think I’m only going to be updating twice a week (partly because I need to be spending more time writing, partly because of school, and partly because I don’t have much interesting to write about).

As an update on the non-writing/reading part of my life, I spent an obscene amount of time grading papers yesterday/wretchedly early this morning, and I’ve been out and about working on school projects. Wahoo for me.

In terms of NaNoWriMo (I can’t just call it “NaNo” like many people because, according to the acronym, that’s just National Novel… which makes little to no sense), I am grossly behind. I think I may have bitten off more than I can feasibly chew without stress, but stress is a great motivator sometimes. I hope that I can get caught up this weekend or even get ahead so that I can deal with the stress and shenanigans I know the rest of the month is sure to bring.

To sum up, yes I’m behind, yes I’ll be working my butt off this weekend, and yes I am sure I can still complete my 50,000 words this month. I’ve proven to myself time and again that I am more than capable of doing these sorts of things (like writing copious amounts in one day) and still doing school. I have a post back in the archives somewhere about my NaNoWriMo 2012 experience and how that was good for me as a writer. 2012 was MUCH more chaos-filled than this month has been thus far (knock on wood: this isn’t a cue for someone to have a life-threatening health crisis my dear family), so I’m confident I’ll be able to knock all of these words off.

And that’s it folks. Just as a side note, I’m planning on doing only two posts a week during November (probably on Monday and Friday, though I reserve the right to switch that up), but you can always try and keep up with me on Twitter. That’s at least a little easier to keep up on!

Ciao,

~Branson~

4 November 2013

Hi all! Sorry about no post on Friday. There wasn’t much to report, and it was an exhausting day.

In other news, we had relatives from Montana come and visit for part of the weekend, which was wonderful, and inspired an impromptu family reunion. Shout-out to all of my Roskelley relatives!

I also had a freak allergic reaction to something over the weekend. I don’t know what it was, but my entire body broke out in a fantastic case of hives and I was floating on a cloud of Benadryl for a significant portion of the weekend, so yay antihistamines.

In terms of NaNoWriMo, I’m a little behind on my word count, but I think that I can get caught up throughout the week. I will be keeping y’all updated with little blog posts like this. Nothing extravagant, as I also have other things in life that I need to do as well (such as grade a mountain of papers), but I will be posting.

Until Wednesday,

~Branson~
